The Austrian citizenship test explained

Last updated 2 November 2026

The citizenship test has 18 questions and lasts 2 hours. It has three areas of six questions each: the democratic order, history, and your state (Bundesland).

Every question has four answers. At least one and at most three are right. You tick all you think are right. A partly right answer earns part of the point. One wrong tick makes the question worth zero.

You pass with 12 of 18 points, or with 3 of 6 points in each area. One rule is enough. Our mock tests show both rules after every test.
